چکیده
In 12 patients who were studied after therapy was stopped the incidence of sex chromatin was found to return to the normal female range. In six patients in whom the smears were studied at intervals of four days for 32 days during therapy the sex-chromatin incidence showed a rapid initial fall noticed within the first four days, and then minor fluctuations without further fall during the continuation of therapy.

Improvement of motor function and decreased need for postnatal shunting in children who had undergone intrauterine myelomeningocele repair.
OBJECTIVE To compare neuromotor development between patients who did and those who did not undergo intrauterine myelomeningocele repair. METHODS Children with myelomeningocele aged between 3.5 and 6 years who did undergo intrauterine repair (Group A, n=6) or not (Group B; n=7) were assessed for neuromotor development at both anatomical and functional levels, need for orthoses, and cognitive f...
متن کاملClosure of Myelomeningocele Defects Using a Limberg Flap or Direct Repair.
BACKGROUND The global prevalence of myelomeningocele has been reported to be 0.8-1 per 1,000 live births. Early closure of the defect is considered to be the standard of care. Various surgical methods have been reported, such as primary skin closure, local skin flaps, musculocutaneous flaps, and skin grafts. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics of myelomeningocele ...
متن کاملPrimary tethered cord syndrome: a new hypothesis of its origin.
Primary tethered cord syndrome is defined as low placement of the spinal cord and thickened filum terminale with associated anomalies. This definition excludes anomalies concomitant with overt myelomeningocele and spinal cord tethering secondary to myelomeningocele repair. Embryologically, the primary tethered cord syndrome is an entirely different entity from overt myelomeningocele and associa...
متن کاملAnaesthetic Challenges and Management of Myelomeningocele Repair
IntroductIon: Failure of neural tube closure early in intrauterine development results in spectrum of abnormalities ranging from spinabifidaocculta, a relativelybenigncondition to meningomyeocele, an abnormality involving vertebral bodies, spinal cord and brainstem. These babies also have associated congenital anomaliese.g.intestinalmalrotation, renal anomalies, cardiac malformations and trache...
متن کاملFetal surgery for myelomeningocele and the incidence of shunt-dependent hydrocephalus.
CONTEXT Intrauterine closure of exposed spinal cord tissue prevents secondary neurologic injury in animals with a surgically created spinal defect; however, whether in utero repair of myelomeningocele improves neurologic outcome in infants with spina bifida is not known. OBJECTIVE To determine whether intrauterine repair of myelomeningocele improves patient outcomes compared with standard car...
